Rajinikanth has made a smashing comeback with Nelson's Jailer, which has grossed around 400 crores worldwide. The movie is currently the highest grosser of the Superstar in Tamil Nadu. Cinephiles are eager to know how much the action drama will collect in the long run.

The makers initially had plans to rope in Malayalam's Megastar Mammootty to essay the antagonist's role in the film which was later played by Vinayakan. Movie buffs could have watched two legends sharing screen space again after Thalapathi, if it had materialized.

Here's now the happy news for fans of the iconic film which was released in 1991. The Mani Ratnam directorial, which is still considered a benchmark in Tamil cinema, is getting a re-release. It is heard that the movie will hit the screens in 4K resolution. The details regarding the number of screens and release date will be announced soon. 

Rajinikanth's yesteryear projects like Baba and Moondru Mugam had re-releases recently in digitally enhanced versions. Thalapathi is one of the movies of the Superstar which is enjoyed by fans of all heroes, and hence, film enthusiasts are expected to throng to movie halls when the blockbuster action drama releases in the new format.

Apart from the presence of the acting stalwarts, Ilaiyaraaja's music, performances of actors and cinematography by Santosh Shivan are a few aspects that made the film an ever-memorable one. Arvind Swami, Amrish Puri, Sri Divya and Shobana among others essayed prominent characters in Thalapathi.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is expected to team up with Amitabh Bachchan for his next outing to be helmed by TJ Gnanavel. The names of a few actors from other industries are also doing the rounds.
