The recent Jailer audio launch event saw superstar Rajinikanth in his best spirits. The 72-year-old showed up at the glittery event in his unassuming self, dressed in a dark blue shirt and black trousers but the crowd present would give him a roaring welcome. It was quite evident that the massive battalion of fans, and the guests of the evening, were keenly (and only) looking forward to Rajini's speech and nothing else. Needless to say, he delivered.
The veteran actor was at his candid best on the stage and spoke at length - close to an hour - about topics ranging from his troubles with alcoholism, the sought-after Superstar title and even about the advice he received from friends to fire director Nelson following the panning of 'Beast' by critics. Laced with humour and his inimitable ease, Rajinikanth managed to capture the imagination of the audience in front and the snippets from the same speech are now going viral on the internet.
But not many would have imagined the Jailer actor to discuss cricket while promoting his film. Praising his upcoming film's producer Kalanithi Maran for his dedication towards filmmaking and also his business acumen, Rajinikanth would also slip in a few nuggets of wisdom concerning the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"The only thing I would ask of Kala sir is to include good players in the Sunrisers team. Every time the Sunrisers play, we all feel quite tense seeing Kavya's (Maran) expressions," said the superstar, drawing a huge cheer from the crowd and also evoking laughter in both Kalanithi and his daughter Kavya Maran.
Although The Sunrisers did manage to lift the trophy in 2016, the team has struggled since then but one does hope to see an improvement now, considering Superstar Rajinikanth has intervened.
Jailer, on the other hand, is set to release in theatres worldwide on August 10. The film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Jackie Shroff, Vinayakan, Shiva Rajkumar and others with Mohanlal making a cameo appearance.
