On Thursday, Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Jailer opens in theatres across the world. In Karnataka, since advance online bookings opened, as many as 1,200 shows have been opened with a whopping 975 of those in the Bengaluru region alone. The show count, we hear, is likely to increase in the next couple of days. Released by AV Media Consultancy through Jayanna Films in the state, Jailer will be available in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, with the most shows dedicated to the Tamil original.
The box-office tracking site Karnataka Talkies claims that the pre-sales gross of online bookings in the state for Jailer is just over Rs 4 crore, with most of it coming from the Bengaluru region. Yet another tracker, Karnatakaa Box office predicts that the Rajinikanth-led film will have a double-digit opening in the state. Netizens have raised concern about the hiked ticket rates in the state, with multiplex rates as high as Rs 800 for regular seats and recliners going at Rs 1,400 each. But despite these rates, day 1 shows, especially the early morning ones are mostly sold out, while others are fast filling.
The Nelson directorial, which has been censored U/A has a run time of 165 minutes. The censor certificate for the Kannada version of Jailer does not mention any cuts, but has suggestions to mute a few words. The film also stars Jackie Shroff and Vinayakan, as well as pivotal cameos by Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar and is about Rajinikanth’s character Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who stops a gang’s efforts to break their leader out of a prison under his watch.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer is Superstar Rajinikanth’s 169th film.
