Jailer on OTT: The Thalapathy Vijay connect to Shiva Rajkumar's casting not many know about

It's been quite the season of superstars in India the past few months as Shah Rukh Khan returns to the fore to secure another massive success in Jawan, having delivered Pathaan only a few months ago. The 57-year-old actor will look to cash in on the hype that's already created by predecessors like Jailer and Gadar 2 and hope that the audiences respond similarly to his film as well. Jawan, written and directed by Atlee, released in theatres on September 7.

The same day also marks the OTT debut of Rajinikanth's Jailer, which arrives on digital platforms after a thumping box office run. Just as Pathaan reiterated that 'form is temporary & class is permanent' in Shah Rukh's case, Jailer announced the people's own Thalaivar's return to form. 

As a result, the film's digital premiere has caught the attention of fans out there who are looking to either enjoy Rajinikanth's trademark quirks one more time on the small screen or catch the film for the first time, having missed the opportunity to watch it on the big screen.

Shiva Rajkumar shines bright

Another major takeaway from the Jailer success is the fact that Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar made a huge mark with his cameo appearance in the film. Playing a massy role in the film, Shivanna attracted a lot of praise and love from not only his fans back home in Karnataka but also those belonging to the new legion he found to his name in Tamil Nadu. Many saw his casting as a near-perfect move from Nelson's end but at the same time, it isn't known to everybody that there is a very interesting 'Thalapathy Vijay' connection to all this.

In a recent conversation with a popular media outlet, Shiva Rajkumar divulged that he was stationed in Chennai not very long ago to shoot for his 2022 film Bairagee. During that time, he would visit Leo actor Thalapathy Vijay on the sets of Beast (presumably) which had Nelson at the helm. The latter's eye would catch Shivanna's unkempt, rather rugged appearance which also included a beard and it was apparently at that point that the filmmaker thought of casting the Century Star in the role of Narasimha in Jailer.

Of course, Shiva Rajkumar will be soon seen as Dhanush's on-screen older brother in Arun Matheswaran's Captain Miller. Many are looking forward to seeing him in that intriguing role but beyond that, one also grows curious to know whether the veteran actor is seeking out more prominent roles in Tamil cinema. He has said in the recent past that there have been a couple of discussions concerning the same and that it's too early to comment on the prospects. However, Shiva Rajkumar has professed his wish to work with Tamil superstar Ajith in a film and fans of both actors are now hoping to see this exciting collaboration materialize very soon.
