It's raining gifts for Superstar Rajinikanth following the historic success of his latest movie Jailer. As the movie continues to create new records at the box office, producer Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures surprised Rajinikanth with expensive gifts.
Kalanithi Maran visited Rajinikanth's residence recently bearing gifts, including new BMW models. "#JailerSuccessCelebrations continue! Superstar @rajinikanth was shown various car models and Mr.Kalanithi Maran presented the key to a brand new BMW X7 which Superstar chose," tweeted Sun Pictures along with a video.
Jailer's remarkable box office run
In the video, Rajinikanth could have been seen pleasantly surprised by Maran's gesture. The BMW X7 series on-road price is upwards of Rs 1.25 crore. Rajinikanth received the car, along with a massive pay cheque.
According to reports, Maran gave Rajinikanth a cheque to the tune of Rs 100 crore as part of the profit-sharing deal. "Mr. Kalanithi Maran met Superstar @rajinikanth and handed over a cheque, celebrating the historic success of #Jailer," Sun Pictures tweeted earlier, sharing the pictures of Maran giving the cheque to Rajinikanth.
The pictures and videos of Maran sharing the profits suggest the scale and scope of the movie's commercial success. Jailer's total domination of the box office has created a new box office benchmark for the Tamil film industry.
Can Jailer beat 2.0?
In just 22 days of its release, Jailer sold over Rs 550 crore worth of tickets worldwide, making it the second biggest earner in the history of Tamil cinema. Rajinikanth's 2.0 holds the record of being the biggest earner with over Rs 660 crore in ticket sales. While it's highly unlikely that Jailer can surpass the collection record of 2.0, there is a real possibility that the latest Rajinikanth starrer might reach the milestone of Rs 600 crore in global box office earnings before the end of its theatrical run.
Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer also stars Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Saroff, Ramya Krishnan among others.
