A few days ago, producer KA Suresh had revealed that he was looking at bringing his film Thothapuri: Chapter 2 to theatres on August 11. This would have pitted the film not only against the new biggies, Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar, but also the Kannada films that have been in theatres from previous weeks and have been attracting footfalls. But as it turns out, the tsunami that is Rajinikanth is too much for Thothapuri 2 to tide over.
When we checked in with Suresh about his film’s release he said, “There are no theatres. How will I release my film. Jailer has taken up almost all the screens and shows, so much so that even the Kannada films that were being shown and had decent collections are being removed to make way for the Rajinikanth-starrer. Last evening, it became clear that it would be impossible to release Thothapuri 2 this week. This is a film made for a theatrical experience, so, we will now have to wait and see how things go. This is a two-hero film, with Dhananjaya joining Jaggesh in a more prominent role. August 18 also looks unlikely, as it is only a week away and has two Kannada films already lined up. Moreover, we will have to see how these big films perform and if they will retain their screens.”
While August 25 has Raj B Shetty’s Toby, September 1 is Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A, so Suresh reckons that Thothapuri Chapter 2 will probably be in theatres thereafter. “I should get clarity on this in a week or two,” he adds. Jailer, meanwhile, is releasing in a whopping 1,200+ shows in Karnataka , with close to a thousand of those in the Bengaluru region. The pre-release advance booking for the Rajini film has been phenomenal for day 1.
