Jailer box office: Rajinikanth makes a rousing comeback, records galore as the film takes a grand opening

Nelson's Jailer, which was released yesterday across the globe, has garnered positive response from all quarters. Rajinikanth's presence, cameos of Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, Anirudh's music and Vijay Kartik Kannan's visuals are highlights of the action drama that is likely to generate repeated audiences.

As expected, the movie has taken a terrific start across the globe. It has surpassed a few films to emerge as the biggest opener in Tamil Nadu this year without early morning shows. It has outsmarted the feat achieved by Thunivu, Varisu and Ponniyin Selvan 2.

Remarkable feat

Jailer has also secured the all-time third-biggest opening for a Tamil movie in terms of the worldwide box office after Kabali and Ponniyin Selvan 1. It has managed to register the biggest premiere for an Indian film this year in the USA. The Superstar's film is now the highest earner on day one for a Tamil movie in Karnataka.

It acquired the maximum number of shows on day one for any movie in the city, outsmarting what sensational hits KGF 2 and Avatar 2 had achieved in recent times. The film has also become the biggest Tamil opener of 2023 in Telugu states, Kerala and ROI markets.

Huge weekend loading

With positive reports spreading everywhere, the movie has taken the best opening for a Rajinikanth-starrer after Kabali. Unlike the 2016 release, the latest film has an encouraging response and has satisfied his humongous fan base. At a time when social media was abuzz with who the next Superstar of Tamil cinema is, he has come up with a fitting answer.

With the film having released on a Thursday and Tuesday being a holiday, the movie is poised to collect huge in the first six days. Cinephiles have already started guessing the numbers the movie might put up on the weekend. The first day gross of Jailer is more than 90 crores.
