It would be an understatement to say that Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Jailer has set the box office on fire . The movie is showing no signs of slowing down and its collection significantly improved on the account of the Independence Day holiday. The movie's six-day collection is more than the lifetime collections of many blockbusters.

Jailer is creating new collection records while pushing up the benchmark for southern movies at the box office worldwide. Director Mani Ratnam's ambitious period drama Ponniyin Selvan 1 had become the first film at the Tamil Nadu box office to rake in Rs 200 crore in ticket sales. While Ponniyin Selvan took nearly three weeks to achieve that, Jailer is likely to cross that milestone much faster.

Jailer has so far reported over 81 per cent occupancy in cinemas across Tamil Nadu since its release. The movie is playing in about 900 screens in the state alone, which is 90 per cent of the state's total screen count. The movie has managed to zoom past the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the Tamil Nadu box office alone within six days of its release. Jailer became Rajinikanth's third movie after 2.0 and Petta to earn Rs 100 crore in the state alone.

In the meantime, the reception for Jailer in the neighbouring states is no different. The movie has collected over Rs 43 crore in Karnataka so far. In Kerala, Jailer has shattered the collection records of the previous Tamil blockbusters in the state by raking in over Rs 33 crore since its release. And it will soon beat the lifetime collection of Rs 40 crore of Kamal Haasan's Vikram. Jailer has also become the top choice of moviegoers in the Telugu states, where the movie has earned over Rs 30 crore so far, overcrowding Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's Bhola Shankar. The Chiranjeevi-starrer, which is the remake of Vedelam, has been rejected by the movie patrons at the box office, with the movie's distributor's share across the Telugu states on Monday plummeting to as low as Rs 18 lakh.

Jailer has also clicked with the Indian diaspora across the world. According to reports, in just six days, the black comedy actioner has sold over Rs 400 crore worth of tickets worldwide. And judging from the ongoing craze for the movie, Jailer is bound to outearn Rajinikanth's previous blockbusters, including 2.0 and Kabali.

Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. The star-studded cast, including the spectacular cameos by Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar has helped the movie to outperform the expectations. With the movie's success, Rajinikanth has proved all the naysayers, who had predicted the doom of his box office supremacy, wrong.
