Superstar Rajinikanth's latest release Jailer is on a rampage at the worldwide box office . The movie has caught the imagination of the fans of the superstar like no other movie of his in the last few years.

Jailer is creating new box office records while surpassing the collection of Rajinikanth's past blockbusters on its opening weekend itself. It has emerged as a box office juggernaut, not just in Tamil Nadu and southern states, but across the world.

A worldwide sensation

For example, Jailer is setting the cash registers ringing in the Gulf region, where it is likely to end its first three days run with a gross collection of $4 million, overtaking the opening weekend collection of Rajinikanth's biggest earner 2.0 ($3.2 million). And Jailer has also emerged as the top Indian movie at the US box office as it has already raked in $3.25 million in ticket sales there. The trade is confident that the movie will end its five-day run in the US with a whopping $4 million, which is more than Rs 33 crore. The popularity of Jailer with the Telugu population in the USA will extend the movie's earnings during the weekdays.

Jailer is setting the box office on fire in the Telugu states, overshadowing Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's new movie Bhola Shankar. The remake of the 2015 Tamil hit Vedalam has opened to a lukewarm response at the box office. According to reports, the Chiranjeevi starrer made its box office debut by collecting a little over Rs 26 crore. The opening day collection in the Telugu states is pegged at Rs 21 crore. The movie's box office performance further dipped on Saturday on account of poor reviews, adding more momentum to the Jailer craze in the Telugu states.

In Kerala and Karnataka, Jailer is completely dominating the box office, creating several new collection records in these regions. In Kerala, the theatres are running many additional late-night shows and early-morning shows to keep up with the demand. Jailer has already become the biggest Tamil opener in Kerala with over Rs 16 crore collection just in the first three days.

In Tamil Nadu, Jailer is playing on 90 percent of the screens in the state and yet the theatres are not under pressure owing to the huge demand. "It's Kabali-like pressure," noted one of the popular theatre owners in Chennai. In two days, the movie has sold over Rs 35 crore worth of tickets in Tamil Nadu alone. And it had a fantastic Saturday and posied to maximise its gains on Sunday across the world.

According to the latest estimation, Jailer earned over Rs 70 crore from its worldwide ticket sales on Saturday.

Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer is bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
