Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Jailer has exceeded all expectations at the box office. After having a bullish run across the cinemas worldwide for two consecutive weeks, the movie's collections have begun to drop. However, still, it continues to hold steady across many centres both in India and abroad.
According to reports, the drop in footfall was followed by the movie's terrific performance during its second weekend at the box office. The movie is said to have raked in about Rs 90 crore from its worldwide ticket sales last Sunday, posting a business that was on par with the movie's opening day and first Sunday . And the movie's ongoing performance is a record in itself as it has shattered several collection records of previous blockbusters. And in the process has set a new benchmark for Tamil cinema at the worldwide box office.
Rajinikanth's terrific comeback
Jailer was a much-needed break to Rajinikanth's career after delivering movies like Darbar and Annaatthe. Both movies were released amid a lot of expectations, however, they turned out to be both critical and commercial duds. And Jailer was an important movie not just for Rajinikanth, but also for director Nelson, who was reeling under a plot of pressure following the critical debacle of his previous directorial outing Beast.
And Jailer showed the enduring appeal of Rajinikanth among moviegoers across multiple generations. Not many movies in Tamil have managed to cross the coveted Rs 500 crore mark. And Rajinikanth has three movies so far, including Jailer, 2.0 and Kabali.
Rajinikanth's thrid Rs 500 crore movie
So far Jailer has managed to collect over Rs 500 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. And the possibility of the movie grossing Rs 600 crore by the end of the week is really high.
Written and directed by Nelson, the movie is bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
