Jailer box office collection: Kannada version of Rajinikanth's film shines bright

A lot of hopes and expectations were pinned on Nelson's Jailer ahead of its release, mainly because it stars Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role. With both Nelson and Rajinikanth ardently looking for success owing to the underwhelming results produced by their recent ventures, one wished for Jailer to turn things around for them. And right on cue, the film has quashed all apprehensions that hovered over its head, silencing all sceptics in a thumping manner. 

Jailer, according to the latest trade chatter, has grossed Rs. 300 crores worldwide within a matter of 4 days. The film now seems well on course to end up the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, with the potential of being one of the all-time biggest grossers in Tamil cinema history. It's also the fourth Rajinikanth film to breach the Rs. 300 crore mark.

There's no denying that Jailer is mounted on Rajinikanth's stardom and his inherent swagger as an entertainer. Many critics note that the film brims with whistle-worthy moments that one has yearned to see Thalaivar in for sometime now, considering that his recent 3-4 films have failed to live up to the mark. And turns out that the veteran actor's charisma is such that audiences from all over the country are responding to it with great gusto.

Over the longer four-day opening weekend (the film released on a Thursday), the original Tamil version of Jailer made a little over Rs. 121 crores (nett) in India alone. The Telugu version, too, has yielded great results so far with Rs. 27 crores (nett), thanks to Rajinikanth's popularity.

What's surprising though is that Jailer has done quite well in its Kannada dubbed version with collections of more than Rs. 1 crore thus far. Matching toe-to-toe is the Hindi dubbed version, enunciating that Rajinikanth's fame transcends linguistic boundaries.

Another highlight of Jailer has been the presence of many popular stars from across the country. Jackie Shroff plays a prominent role in the film and so does Ramya Krishnan. Alongside, the film also features special cameos of Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal, and it is evident that fans of these superstars are thronging cinema halls to see them in action. In-form Anirudh Ravichander's music, too, is a major highlight of the film.
