Director Nelson Dilipkumar recently dropped a major update on his next outing with superstar Rajinikanth, which is a sequel to the 2023-released blockbuster, Jailer.

Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar of Tamil cinema teamed up with talented filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar for the blockbuster film Jailer, in 2023. The movie, which featured the veteran actor in the titular role, emerged as one of the all-time biggest blockbusters of Tamil cinema. Recently, it was confirmed that Rajinikanth is reuniting with director Nelson for a sequel to the film, titled Jailer 2. The filmmaker, who recently attended an event, dropped a major update on the project.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar, who recently attended the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards event, finally opened up about his next collaboration with Rajinikanth. The talented filmmaker confirmed that they are indeed teaming up for Jailer 2. According to Nelson, the script of the film is already locked, and the pre-production has begun. The filmmaker confirmed that the production banner, Sun Pictures, will make the big announcement within a month. In that case, it is safe to assume that Jailer 2 will have its official launch in October 2024.
As you may know, Rajinikanth appeared in the role of ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian IPS, a retired jailer in the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, the celebrated superstars of Malayalam and Kannada film industries, made cameo appearances in the film. Jailer featured a stellar star cast including Jackie Shroff, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon, VTV Ganesh, Redin Kingsley, and others in supporting roles.
Anirudh Ravichander composed the iconic songs and background score for Jailer. Vijay Karthik Kannan is the director of photography. R Nirmal handles the editing. If you wish to revisit Jailer on OTT, the blockbuster Rajinikanth starrer is currently available for streaming on Sun NXT and OTTplay Premium. Coming back to Jailer 2, all the major cast and crew members of the first installment are expected to return to the sequel, which is about to start rolling by the end of 2024.
