If Malayalis are asked to name a crime thriller series, undoubtedly, the first name that they would say will be the Oru CBI Diary Kurippu series. The Mammootty-led movie franchise has certainly won everyone’s hearts since the release of its first film in the 80s.
When the franchise is gearing up to have a fifth installment, the most exciting news is the return of Malayalam’s comedy star Jagathy Sreekumar, who will be reprising his iconic role in the drama. He has donned the role of Vikram, an assistant officer to Mammotty’s epic Sethurama Iyer CBI, in the previous four movies. According to the latest reports, the actor will be returning to his shoes, to play the witty-wise officer once again.
Vikram could be hailed as Jagathy’s one of the outstanding characters in his whole acting career. Ranging from Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, to Jagratha, Sethurama Iyer CBI, to Nerariyan CBI, four of the movies have seen Jagathy’s Vikram, who has stood as a strong supporting hand to Sethurama Iyer in his crime investigations.
Meanwhile, the movie will also bring back Mukesh and Sai Kumar in their old shoes of officer Chacko and police officer Sathya Das, without whom none could think about a CBI movie. In the list of new cast members, the movie will also have additions like Renji Panicker, Dileesh Pothan, Soubin Shahir, Ramesh Pisharody, Asha Sarath and more.
The iconic theme will also be brought back to the movie, but this time through Jakes Bejoy’s keys. The theme was originally composed by Shyam for the franchise, which later turned out to be the hum-of-the-town.
