The studio reportedly aims to make it entirely distinct from the 2000 film. According to recent updates, Luca Guadagnino has been chosen to direct the new adaptation of American Psycho, a decision that has generated much excitement. The filmmaker is said to have picked Jacob Elordi to bring his vision to life. In an interview with Variety, Elordi was asked whether he is indeed playing Patrick Bateman. Though he smiled and nodded in the direction of Guadagnino, his response left room for interpretation. For many online, this subtle gesture was confirmation enough.

Elordi offered a diplomatic answer, saying, "I would work with a filmmaker from every country in the world. Cinema is this grand universal language, and I've barely even learned how to say hello. My dream is to work with all kinds of filmmakers and human beings and kinds of films."

About the New American Psycho Adaptation

As reported by Deadline, Lionsgate does not intend to create a remake of Christian Bale’s American Psycho. Instead, the studio plans to craft a fresh interpretation, aiming for a distinct narrative tone. To achieve this, they have enlisted Luca Guadagnino, who has reportedly been in talks with the studio for some time.

Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair, expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying, "We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate. Luca is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP."

Lionsgate and Frenesy Films are jointly developing the new American Psycho, with Sam Pressman serving as executive producer.

About the 2000 American Psycho

The original American Psycho (2000) stars Christian Bale in a career-defining role as Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street yuppie obsessed with success, status, and style, who leads a double life as a psychotic killer. The film, adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’s controversial novel, is a sharp satire on the dark side of 1980s yuppie culture, combining chilling psychological horror with dark humor.
