Jackie Shroff roped into Vijay Sethupathi-M Manikandan’s upcoming web series

Earlier, it was reported that actor Vijay Sethupathi was joining forces with director M Manikandan for a new web series. The latest update from the upcoming project is that Jailer star Jackie Shroff has now come onboard. To be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar, Jackie has been roped in to play a pivotal role in the show. Although the new update comes from close sources of the unit, the makers are yet to unveil the official cast of the show. 

Shooting for the series is taking place in Manikandan’s hometown Usilampatti, Tamil Nadu. The team has already completed two-three schedules, and will resume the filming this month. The entire series is set in Usilampatti.

Did Mammootty withdraw from the Vijay Sethupathi-Manikandan series?

It’s also been reported that Malayalam superstar Mammootty was initially approached for the role, which has now gone to Jackie Shroff. The Kannur Squad star, however, opted out of the project. According to sources, Jackie will be joining the team in the next schedule. 

Manikandan’s third collaboration with Vijay Sethpathi

Kaaka Muttai fame director Manikandan is making his OTT debut with this new series for Disney+ Hotstar. The show marks Vijay’s third collaboration with the filmmaker after Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi. It is also the acclaimed actor’s first web series in Tamil. 

Earlier in the year, Vijay made his OTT debut with the Shahid Kapoor starrer Farzi, in which he played the character of a police officer, named Michael Vedanayagam. Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, the black comedy series - directed by Raj & DK - also featured Kay Kay Menon, Bhuvan Arora, Amol Palekar, Raashi Khanna and Regina Cassandra in key roles. Vijay garnered a lot of praise for his performance in the series.

M Manikandan’s upcoming project marks Vijay Sethpathi’s first Tamil web series

Manikandan’s upcoming web series is said to be an interesting project for the Jawan star. Expressing his excitement about the same, Vijay dropped a picture from the puja ceremony on social media and wrote, “Happy to start my first web series in Tamil for @disneyplusHSTam, Directed by #Manikandan with an auspicious pooja! @7CsPvtPte @Aaru_Dir @shammysaga @RajeshMRadio @epitole @jacki_art @yogeshdir @Kavitha_Stylist (sic).”

The crew behind the upcoming Vijay Sethupathi-Manikandan series

The series is being bankrolled by 7C’s Entertainment Pvt Ltd, with music by Rajesh Murugesan, cinematography by Shanmugasundaram, editing by Ajith Kumar and art direction by Immanuel Jackson. Meanwhile, sound design will be handled by Ajayan K Adat and Kavitha will be in charge of the costumes.
