Earlier this month, when Karthik Gowda of KRG Studios spoke about the re-release of the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s blockbuster Jackie, he’d said that the plan was to bring it to about 100 centres. On release day, though, he managed to give the Duniya Suri directorial a much bigger second coming with a whopping 175 centres and a gross collection in the vicinity of Rs 1 crore on day 1.
An official note from KRG Studios states that the Jackie re-release received extraordinary response, with more than 100 sold-out shows across the state, and gross collections reaching around 1 crore on day 1. The trend for Day 2 and Day 3 were also looking very encouraging, considering that the latter would also coincide with the late Power Star’s birthday on March 17.
KRG Studios confirmed that the Jackie re-release came to 175 centres, the highest ever for a film that was coming to theatres a second time. Karthik said that they chose Jackie this year as it was a mass and engaging film, and a complete celebration of Appu. “We want to dedicate one film around his birthday every year,” said Karthik, adding that 2025 will see the re-release of Appu, the actor’s debut as a leading man. Restoration of the 2002 film will begin shortly, he added.
Industry trackers say that the day 2 count of Jackie will be higher than day 1 in Bengaluru and Mysuru. The film is expected to become one of he best performing Kannada re-releases. Interestingly, for all the love that Jackie has received back in the day during its initial release, director Suri says that the morning show report of the film was far from encouraging and the whole team thought that they might have a disaster in hand.
Contrary to those first impressions, though, Jackie went on to become a massive blockbuster, with a 100-day theatrical run.
