Season 2 of House of the Dragon has started filming. The HBO series is now being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, and a first-look image has been revealed showing the Iron Throne seated erect in the Great Hall of the Red Keep.
Co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer Ryan Condal said in a statement that the House of the Dragon is back. They are ecstatic to be filming once more with members of the original family and fresh faces on both sides of the camera. Soon, all of the people's favourite characters will be plotting at the council tables, leading their armies into combat, and riding their dragons.
The second season, which will have two fewer episodes than the first, will go into production, as Deadline reported last month.
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans are among the season 2 cast members.
Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham are the other returning cast members.
The executive producer and co-creator alongside Condal is George R.R. Martin. Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis are the executive producers. Sara Hess is also a producer.
The series, which is based on Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, takes place around 100 years after the Targaryen Conquest unites the Seven Kingdoms, over 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen is born. The series, which stars a large ensemble cast, depicts the events leading up to the "Dance of the Dragons," a deadly conflict of succession that marked the beginning of House Targaryen's collapse.
The drama series won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series in January 2023.
