It's Thala Pongal indeed! HERE's when Ajith's action entertainer Thunivu will hit screens

After a long wait, it's finally official! Ajith's action entertainer Thunivu is all set to hit screens for Pongal. The film's director H Vinoth made the announcement on his social media handle on Monday evening with a post that read, "THALA Pongal Locked 12-01-2023 #Thunivu (sic)." The news has come as a huge relief for fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the release date of the film. Thunivu is bankrolled by Boney Kapoor.

Thunivu has Manju Warrier as the leading lady marking her maiden collaboration with Ajith. This will be her second film in Tamil after her debut in Vetri Maaran's Asuran, which had Dhanush in the lead. The rest of the star cast for Thunivu includes Samuthirakani, Veera, John Kokken and Pavani Reddy to name a few. Pavani had recently thanked Ajith for the opportunity to work with the actor on her social media page. The former Bigg Boss contestant wrote, "Its was great working with u my thala ajith anna I am big fan of you..Thank you #AjithKumar anna..& HVinoth Sir. #Thunivu (sic)." The team had recently wrapped up the final schedule of the film in Bangkok and had begun the post-production work. The team recently returned from Thailand.

Thunivu is said to be a heist thriller that is said to be inspired by a real-life robbery. Ajith will be sporting a dashing look in the film and the first and second-look posters had already set the internet on fire. Ajith's last Pongal release was Siva's Viswasam, which had Nayanthara as the leading lady. The film was declared a hit and the song, Kannana Kanne, went on to become a chartbuster.  

Now that the Thunivu team has confirmed a Pongal release, it is clear that the film will take on Vijay's Varisu, which is also scheduled to hit screens for Pongal. The clash is expected to set the box office on fire, with fans of both the actors rooting for their respective matinee idol's films.
