The much-awaited announcement from the team of Sivakarthikeyan's Maaveeran is finally here. The film is gearing up to hit screens as an Independence Day special and will release on August 11. It looks like the makers want to cash in on the extended holiday. The film is bilingual and is titled Maaveerudu in Telugu. Both versions will be released on the same date.

Sivakarthikeyan announced the same along with the making video of the film. The video gives a glimpse of some action-packed scenes and going by the video, it looks like there will be many whistle-worthy moments in the theatre.

Sivakarthikeyan is said to be playing a cartoonist in the film whose work comes true in real life. The actor also seems to have some heavy-duty stunt sequences in the film. The star cast includes Yogi Babu, Sunil, Saritha and Aditi Shankar. The film is directed by Madonne Ashwin, whose lost outing Mandela won the National Award and received a lot of critical acclaim. This is the maiden collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan, Madonne Ashwin and Aditi Shankar.

Music for the film is by Bharath Shankar, who had earlier teamed up with Madonne Ashwin for Mandela. While the cinematography is by Vidhu Ayyanna, editing is handled by Philomin. Raj Kumar Gangappan and Arun Venjaramoodu are handling the art direction and Yannick Ben has choreographed the stunt sequences. Arun Viswa of Shanthi Talkies is bankrolling the project.

The digital rights of the film have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video and the film will drop a month after the theatrical release. It is said that the rights have been acquired for a whopping sum, which is said to be the highest for a Sivakarthikeyan film. Since, the actor's last outing Prince was a dampener at the box office, fans hope that Sivakarthikeyan will be back with a bang in Maaveeran.
