Is Shahid Kapoor's Deva similar to Kabir Singh? Actor says, 'It’s an aggressive character but...'

Shahid Kapoor is currently busy promoting his upcoming film, Deva. Co-starring Pooja Hegde, the film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews. The trailer and the songs are being loved by the audience and people are looking forward to seeing Shahid in a chaotic avatar. After the trailer was launched at a grand event, a section of people thought that his role in Deva was quite similar to Kabir Singh's. Kabir Singh, directed by Sandeep Vanga Reddy, was the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, it ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2019. During the promotion of Deva, Shahid revealed if there are any similarities between his characters. 

Shahid Kapoor talks about Deva and Kabir Singh

In Deva, Shahid will be seen essaying the role of a police officer, performing high-octane action sequences. On the other hand, Pooja will be seen playing a journalist in the film. During the promotion recently, Shahid said that even though his character in Deva is aggressive, it is quite different from Kabir Singh. 

According to PTI, the actor said, "It’s an aggressive character but 'Deva' is very Deva, there is no Kabir Singh in it. Deva is also not like any other character… Till 'Kabir Singh' people said, 'Oh! Is he like Tommy Singh in ‘Udta Punjab’?" He went on to say that people often compare the characters before watching the film on screen.

Pooja Hegde calls Shahid Kapoor a "good therapist"

Pooja, on the other hand, called Shahid a 'good therapist'. She revealed how they talk about life and careers when they travel. She added, "We were coming in a car and it took us around 1 hour to reach. He was just talking to me about life and career. We had a long conversation and it was very inspiring." 

Pooja also spoke about her character and revealed why she chose to do Deva. The actress said, "Sometimes you want to work with the filmmaker, sometimes you like the character… I have decided to do roles that make my soul happy as an actor. In ‘Deva’ I really liked the character."

Deva, also starring Kubbra Sait and Pavail Gulati, will hit theatres on January 31, 2025.
