There were various rumours that Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal’s Love And War is inspired by Raj Kapoor’s iconic film, Sangam. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has spoken about the same during his recent interaction. The filmmaker happened to draw comparison with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan instead. While accepting that he tried to make Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam like that, SLB completely denied that Love And War is like that. Here’s what he said…

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s reaction to rumours of Love And War being a remake of Sangam

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “Love And War is not at all a remake of Sangam. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is also like Sangam. I tried to make Aishwarya Rai Bachchan like Vyajanthimala in the film.”

Heeramandi was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s version of Pakeezah

Right after, SLB also confessed that Heeramandi is his tribute to Pakeezah. “Kamal Amrohi knew what beauty and life was,” he added. However, the filmmaker stressed on why such movies should not be remade. “You cannot remake Mother India or Sangam,” he signed off.

“I'm a terrible human being but inspired as a filmmaker”

In the same interview, SLB claimed that he is a terrible human being because nobody can understand him or his actions. However, at the same time, he talks about being inspired as a filmmaker and someone that his fans connect with.

Why SLB chooses stars for his movies

After smiling, SLB said that stars have a certain aura, beauty and talent. “I've worked not only with stars but wonderful actors,” he said, citing examples of Nana Patekar, Manisha Koirala and Seema Biswas.

“When Ranbir Kapoor was assisting me, I said he's a great actor who has talent that is second to none. I told him that he's very special,” SLB added.

The filmmaker feels very fortunate to cast people he has wanted to, and even when things didn’t work out, it has always been for the best. “Stars have a lot of audience, and I cast them out of their comfort zone so audiences come to see that. Sometimes with big actors, the work isn't seen and that's okay. I'm very proud of Hrithik and Aishwarya in Guzaarish. I don't linger around the Friday release,” Bhansali said.
