It is quite interesting how the world has embraced the re-release trend, bringing waves of nostalgia that audiences are thoroughly enjoying. While films like Interstellar and Padmaavat have returned to the big screen, the most successful re-release in India has been Sanam Teri Kasam. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, the tragic love story is back in theaters after nine years, following a fan-led movement demanding its return. However, the biggest question now is—when will Sanam Teri Kasam 2 be released? Here’s everything we know so far.

Is Sanam Teri Kasam 2 Happening?

As audiences flock to theaters to watch Sanam Teri Kasam again, anticipation for its sequel is at an all-time high. In fact, a misunderstanding in Ratlam led moviegoers to believe Sanam Teri Kasam 2 had already been released. However, they soon realized it was the 2016 film’s re-release.

So, is a sequel on the cards? Yes! In September last year, actor Harshvardhan Rane and producer Deepak Mukut confirmed they were working on Sanam Teri Kasam 2. They shared a picture of Rane and Mukut posing with a script, captioned: "Sanam Teri Kasam 2 is officially happening! After the epic love story of the first film, we're back with more! Stay tuned for updates! #SanamTeriKasam2."

There is no confirmation yet on whether Mawra Hocane will return. Given that her character dies in the first film and the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, which have made it nearly impossible for Pakistani actors to work in Indian films, her involvement remains uncertain. The update on the new female lead is still awaited.

Sanam Teri Kasam Box Office Update

According to Sacnilk, the film earned ₹5.25 crore at the Indian box office on day 2 of its re-release. Combined with its ₹4.25 crore earnings on day 1, the total collection now stands at ₹9.50 crore. This means the film has already surpassed its original lifetime earnings—a significant victory. Additionally, it has outperformed other re-releases, including Interstellar, Loveyapa, Badass Ravi Kumar, and Padmaavat.

The Sanam Teri Kasam Misunderstanding

According to Bollywood sources, when reports about Sanam Teri Kasam 2 went viral, fans in Ratlam were thrilled. So, when posters for Sanam Teri Kasam appeared at theaters, many assumed it was the sequel. Excited audiences stormed the theater, only to realize they were watching the original 2016 film.

A source revealed, "Nevertheless, they watched the entire film. However, after the show, they complained to the owner, who was taken aback by their grievance. He clarified that he had never advertised the sequel’s release. The angry moviegoers eventually understood and left." The source added, "Soon, Ratlam residents learned that the 9-year-old Sanam Teri Kasam was back in cinemas, not its second part. As a result, occupancy in the evening and night shows declined."
