Shah Rukh Khan collaborates with Rajkumar Hirani for the first time for Dunki. The filmmaker is best known for Munnabhai franchise and now, netizens have drawn parallels between SRK’s upcoming film and Sanjay Dutt-led franchise films. They have come to the conclusion that Dunki might very well be the revised version of Munna Bhai Chale America.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai’s end had hinted that the new version of the film will be set in America. Now that the Dunki’s plot is out, many believe that it might just be a revised version of the third installment of Munna Bhai franchise.
A thread on Reddit suggests that Dunki could be a revised version of Munna Bhai Chale America since the film also reflects on Donkey flight (illegal immigration). “This seems accurate because Dunki is about illegal immigration, and this film was about Munna going to America, so maybe they used the same script,” a user, according to a report on KoiMoi, wrote.
Another user pointed out that Munna Bhai Chale America was shelved since the script was very similar to My Name Is Khan (also featuring SRK in the lead role). Soon after, one netizen pointed out that the concept has already been adopted by Ammy Virk’s Aaja Mexico Challiye.
Back on February 25, 2016, Vidhu Vinod Chopra had announced the third part of Munna Bhai. However, Rajkumar Hirani got busy with Sanjay Dutt’s biopic titled Sanju back then.
There was a mention of the film in June 2018, soon after Sanju’s release. However, the shooting for the movie got delayed due to COVID-19. It was supposed to commence in October 2020. However, there was no update on the film since.
Currently, the main leads of Munna Bhai franchise Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi have joined Akshay Kumar for Aawara Paagal Deewana 2. Meanwhile, Dunki’s Kashmir shoot has wrapped up today itself.
