Challenging Star Darshan was all set to live up to his promise of having 2 releases in a year, and working to complete his next, Devil, directed by Prakash Veer, when he was arrested in connection with the death of a fan, Renukaswamy. Devil was Darshan’s second collaboration with Prakash after Taarak, and they were on course for a December theatrical outing , despite delays caused by the actor’s arm injury. Devil’s future looks uncertain at the moment, what with Darshan remaining in judicial custody since July 11.
So far, the court has not entertained the actor’s bail application, although his legal counsel has contended that he ought to be given relief as there are crores riding on him. Besides Devil, the actor is said to have received advance amounts from a few other filmmakers as well, and the future of those projects are also uncertain at present.
The most recent rumour, though was about the in-production Devil, with reports emerging that that the film would either be scrapped completely if the actor does not get interim relief shortly, or will have a title change. Bigg Boss Kannada Season 10 fame Vinay Gowda is a part of the film, playing one of the antagonists, and he was recently asked if there is any truth to these rumours.
Speaking to News18 Kannada, Vinay, who has shot for Devil for 5 days and has another schedule of 15-16 days pending, including action portions, said that the film is far from being scrapped and that the next shoot will depend on if and when Darshan gets bail. As for a possible title change, that Vinay says, will not happen, because it has unprecedented popularity at the moment.
Darshan is currently at the Parappana Agrahara, with his judicial custody set to end on August 1. It remains to be seen if the actor will be granted bail or if the police will demand yet another extension of judicial custody.
