When Netflix announced its 2024 slate, one show that grabbed fans' attention was one where Shabana Azmi led a series also starring Nimisha Sajayan, Sai Tamhankar, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, and Gajraj Rao. Set in the underworld, the show revolves around drugs and how these women get involved in selling them. The audience was instantly hooked and eagerly awaited its release. But who knew it would take another year for the show to premiere? Yes, we are talking about Dabba Cartel, which has now released on Netflix on February 28, 2025. Now that we have binge-watched the entire show, the biggest question remains: Will there be a second season of this Farhan Akhtar-backed series, which is receiving a lot of praise?

Will Dabba Cartel Have A Second Season?

Dabba Cartel is a fascinating concept where women take control and prove their strength. Created by Shibani Akhtar and Vishnu Menon, directed by Hitesh Bhatia, and backed by Farhan Akhtar, the show has kept many details under wraps. While we won’t spoil anything for you, we can’t help but wonder whether there will be a Season 2. While there has been no official confirmation regarding a second season, several clues strongly hint at its possibility. The first season ends in a way that sets up the high drama still unfolding. It primarily serves as a foundation for bigger conflicts, leaving many storylines open for exploration.

For example, there is so much to uncover about Sheela Baa aka Kashi’s past. Shalini Pandey’s Raji has killed someone and now must work for a drug cartel to protect those around her. Anjali Anand’s Shaheeda deletes Preeti’s (Sai Tamhankar) number, implying that she is cutting romantic ties to protect her. Meanwhile, Preeti is piecing things together, trying to understand the connection between Shaheeda and Varuna (Jyothika) after noticing the same bag at Varuna’s boutique. She is determined to uncover the truth.

At the same time, Pathak (Gajraj Rao) has discovered that Modella and Meethai (the drugs made by Dabba Cartel) share a similar chemical composition and suspects that someone from VivaLife is involved. It won’t be long before Preeti and Pathak connect the dots. With so many unresolved plot points, it’s clear that a Season 2 would provide plenty of material for further storytelling. However, an official announcement is still pending, and no one knows when it will be made.

Shabana Azmi On Dabba Cartel And Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo Comparisons

Recently, many netizens pointed out the similarities between Dabba Cartel and the JioCinema (formerly Hotstar) show Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo, which stars Dimple Kapadia in the lead. Addressing these comparisons in an India Today interview, Shabana Azmi stated:"Before watching the show, I was concerned that we would be directly compared to it. However, Shibani (Shibani Akhtar, creator of Dabba Cartel) was confident and assured me that wouldn’t happen. Seeing her belief, I was also relieved. And when I watched the show, I realized it was really well-made but quite different from ours. Their setup is exotic, with unique outfits and a specific dialect. In contrast, our show is realistic and focuses on middle-class women. Hence, I don’t think there’s a real comparison."

About Dabba Cartel

Raji (Shalini Pandey) runs a tiffin service with her househelp and friend Mala (Nimisha Sajayan). One day, Mala is deceived by her boyfriend, who blackmails her into selling weed through her dabba service. One drug deal leads to another, and soon, the cartel expands, recruiting more women, including Shaheeda (Anjali Anand), Varuna (Jyothika), and Sheela (Shabana Azmi).

As the players increase and the drug underworld becomes alarmed, challenges mount. The women must now fight to survive and expand the business. Will they succeed, or will they succumb? Watch Dabba Cartel on Netflix to find out.
