Deepika Padukone has had an illustrious career in Bollywood, dotted with several critically acclaimed films as well as blockbuster hits. So, when the actress says that she would “do it again in a heartbeat”, there has to be something special about Piku. Released on May 8, 2015 the Shoojit Sircar directorial - starring the late Irrfan Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika - is counted among the most heart-warming films made in recent years. As the comedy-drama film competes eight years, the Pathaan actress fondly remembers her co-actors, especially Irrfan, and the experience of being a part of the ‘gem of a movie’.
Revolving around a Bengali father-daughter duo living in Delhi, who sets out on a long road trip with a fleet owner, it’s rare in Indian cinema to have ‘constipation’ as a pivotal element in the narrative. Also featuring Moushumi Chatterjee, Raghuvir Yadav and Jisshu Sengupta in supporting roles, the movie is said to be inspired by Satyajit Ray’s 1980 Bengali short film, titled Pikoo. The script for Piku was written by Juhi Chaturvedi. The movie went on to receive several prestigious awards.
As the Piku completes a milestone, Deepika took to her Instagram to share a few glimpses from the making of the film. “It’s been 8 years since this gem of a movie released with these 2 very special people. And if I could relive this experience all over again, I’d do it in a heartbeat. @irrfan, I miss you! @amitabhbachchan, @sircarshoojit & @juhic3 I love you! To everyone who made this film possible, thank you for your energy. #Piku”, she captioned the post.
On the work front, getting ready for Shah Rukh Khan’s highly-anticipated film Jawan, in which she will be making a cameo appearance, writer-director Nag Ashwin’s upcoming Telugu sci-fi action film Project K, and the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter, which also marks her first collaboration with the Vikram Vedha actor.
