Inspector Rishi, the recently released Tamil web series released on Prime Video, has become the most-watched Tamil original series on the streaming platform in India, the makers revealed on social media. Inspector Rishi is a supernatural crime series, starring Naveen Chandra in the lead role.
As per a Prime Video post, Inspector Rishi haas become the most-viewed Tamil series backed by the platform so far. The series is created by filmmaker JS Nandhini and stars Telugu actor Naveen Chandra in the titular role. Nandhini has earlier helmed the vampire romantic drama series Nila Nila Odi Vaa.
The series is set against the backdrop of Thaenkaadu forest region, where a series of murders take place, with the villagers suspecting them to be the work of forest spirit Vanaratchi. Inspector Rishi combines elements of the supernatural to tell the story of a group of cops trying to solve the case of mysterious deaths. Inspector Rishi also stars Sunainaa, Srikrishna Dayal, Kanna Ravi, Ilango Kumaravel, Malini Jeevaratnam and others.
Inspector Rishi got positive reviews upon its release, with many praising the makers for its production values. OTTplay review of the series says, “Inspector Rishi is a closely-knit story of a land and its people, drawing parallel to the horror left when they are robbed of their home. But with the concept not fresh, it is the execution that saves.” The series swings between sceptism and belief of the supernatural.
Prime Video had recently unveiled its upcoming slate, which includes series and films from the regional content. In Tamil, the platform has bagged the post-theatrical rights of the upcoming Suriya-starrer Kanguva. Besides, Prime Video had also announced a few web series, including Gangs-Kuruthi Punal, starring Ashok Selvan, and Snakes and Ladder, headlined by Naveen Chandra.
