It’s always a delight to see Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran and Jayasurya on screen together. After Classmates, the trio had reunited for Nadirshah’s Amar Akbar Antony, which marked the filmmaker’s directorial debut and also went on to be a huge hit at the box office. So, there’s little wonder that the audience are eagerly expecting them to team up again for its sequel.

Recently, its filmmaker Nadirshah as well as its co-writers Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George dropped hints that the sequel is in the offing, much to the delight of the audience.

Indrajith, Prithviraj and Jayasurya to team up for Amar Akbar Antony 2?

However, speaking to OTTplay, Indrajith shares an update about the movie. “I also saw the news about the sequel. Apparently, Vishnu talked about it somewhere. But we haven’t been approached and so, I cannot comment on it,” he says. “There were discussions about its sequel, even when we were shooting the movie. So, they had an idea and I believe they started writing after a year. But somehow it didn’t take off. Now, apparently, they have landed on something better and discussions are going in. They are yet to inform the actors officially.

Amar Akbar Antony, which hit theatres in 2015, revolved around three friends from Fort Kochi and their struggles to earn a living. After their neighbour is killed, they set out to catch the criminal. The movie also had Asif Ali in the cameo role of Faizal, a travel agent who could be the one that realises the trio’s dream of visiting Pattaya, Thailand, at the end of the film. The sequel could continue this thread.

Meanwhile, Indrajith and Prithviraj are currently in Atlanta, Georgia, shooting for L2: Empuraan – the second instalment of Mohanlal’s Lucifer franchise. Both brothers will reprise their roles as Govardhan and Zayed Masood, respectively, in Prithviraj’s directorial that also has Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and Saniya Iyappan.

Before leaving for the US, the brothers had come together for a function in Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate their mother and actress Mallika Sukumaran’s 50th year in the film industry. The function also saw the two brothers giving emotional speeches

“Obviously, you get emotional when you talk about your mother – especially on stage when they just give you two minutes and ask you to speak. There’s so much to talk about your mother and you just don’t know where to start. The whole intention of the programme was to make her happy and revisit memories; she was extremely happy.”

Indrajith’s next release is Luca director Arun Bose’s Marivillin Gopurangal, in which he plays an assistant director. The film, which is expected to be an April release, also has Sarjano Khalid, Shruti Ramachandran and Vincy Aloshius as part of the cast.
