Indian 2, the highly anticipated Kamal Haasan starrer directed by hitmaker Shankar, has finally hit the theatres today. The social thriller, which is a sequel to the 1996-released blockbuster Indian, marked the Ulaganayagan and senior filmmaker’s second onscreen collaboration. The movie, which hit the theatres after a long delay, has left the cine-goers with mixed feelings. While the grandeur of Indian 2 has highly impressed the netizens, they also suggest that it is the director’s weakest film to date, owing to the unimpressive storytelling.

According to the first reactions from the cine-goers on X (formerly Twitter), Indian 2 is a missed opportunity. The netizens suggest that the Shankar directorial, which begins on a high note, soon gets restricted by its outdated storytelling. Some film lovers even feel that the veteran filmmaker is still following the template narrative styles he used in his previous films, and it has not worked for the Kamal Haasan starrer. While Indian 2 has been impressing the audiences with its visual grandeur, the story and narrative have let them down.

Kamal Haasan, the leading man has been receiving love from the audiences for his performance. The cine-goers on Twitter suggest that the Ulaganayagan shines in a few scenes (especially his fight scene with boxing experts, which was also seen in the Indian 2 trailer). However, the film fanatics suggest that the veteran actor’s make-up was far better in the 1996-released first installment. Meanwhile, the fans of both the actor and the filmmaker are defending the film, stating it was an average outing.
