It looks like Kamal Haasan's upcoming vigilante thriller, Indian 2, is now likely to hit screens for August 15, 2024. The latest we hear is that the team is targeting the Independence Day weekend, considering the film revolves around the theme of patriotism.
Indian 2 release moves to mid-2024
We hear that the shoot for the film has been wrapped and post production work is in full swing. It looks like Indian 2 has some heavy-duty post-production work. The film's director Shankar is planning to turn Indian 2 into a visual spectacle. He had not long ago dropped a picture from a leading Hollywood studio. Lola VFX is known for their work in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, where they used the digital face replacement technique which allowed Tom Hanks' character, Forrest Gump, to interact with historical figures.
Similarly, in Indian (1996), Kamal Haasan's iconic character, Senapathy, too, was digitally inserted into archival footage alongside freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. Kamal Haasan will reprise the character in Indian 2 and it looks like there will be some heavy use of the technology in the project, including the deaging technique, which will portray a younger Kamal Haasan.
Indian 2 to mark the finale of the franchise?
Earlier, there was a buzz that the film is likely to be released in two parts. The latest we hear is that Indian 2 will release as a solo project and that it will also mark the end of the franchise, thus hinting that there will be no more sequels to the project.
An ensemble star cast
Indian 2 will have a star-studded cast, comprising Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Guru Somasundaram, Delhi Ganesh, Jayaprakash and Vennela Kishore to name a few. The film will also feature the late Nedumudi Venu and Vivekh.
