On July 12, Tamil’s highly-anticipated film, Indian 2, is scheduled to be released worldwide. As this is going on, the actors and crew are travelling from city to city to promote the film. During a press conference today (July 10) in Kochi, Shankar, Bobby Simha, Siddharth, and Kamal Haasan talked about this pan-Indian project. Kamal Haasan spoke with the media and talked about his collaboration with the late veteran actor Nedumudi Venu.
The Kalki 2898 AD star reminisced working with the veteran Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu. He said he was a committed actor who continued to shoot even though he was in poor health. "Nedumudi Venu is missed. I believe he is still present in this crowd," he remarked. Kamal Haasan continued by stating that he experienced an emotional moment when seeing their combination scenes in the movie or when dubbing for it.
"He has always been my favourite actor in Malayalam cinema. I had also mentioned this when Indian was released in 1996," he continued. The actor, fondly known as Ulaga Nayagan, went on to say that Nedumudi Venu was only given character roles in most of the films in his career where he could have been a hero.
Because he has many friends and critics in Kerala who have influenced who he is today, Kamal Haasan has said that he was "partly made in Kerala." The actor also paid gratitude to several Malayalee artistes and technicians who were instrumental in the skillful production of Indian 2. He asserted that their contributions merit greater acknowledgment than they currently receive.
The film is a sequel to the highly successful 1996 film Indian and is the second joint venture between renowned Indian actor Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. After 28 years, the actor will reprise his role as Veerasekaran Senapathy in this film, which will shortly get a third installment.
