Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s long-delayed project Indian 2 is now nearing completion. However, the release of the political thriller might get postponed again.

Kamal Haasan, the legendary actor, was originally supposed to make a grand comeback to films with Indian 2. However, the Shankar directorial, which is a sequel to the actor-director duo’s 1996-released blockbuster Indian, was delayed initially due to the unfortunate accident that happened on the sets and later due to the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple lockdowns. However, soon after things got back to normal, Kamal Haasan and Shankar resumed the project, with quite a lot of upgrades.
Earlier, it was confirmed that the long-delayed political thriller is finally gearing up for a grand release in April 2024. However, the latest reports by Vikatan suggests that Indian 2 might get postponed once again.
Indian 2 might not release in April 2024
According to the latest reports by Vikatan, both the principal photography and the majority of the post-production works for Indian 2 are finished now. The recent updates suggest that editor A Sreekar Prasad and his team have also finished editing the finished portions. However, director Shankar, who is currently juggling between the Kamal Haasan starrer and Ram Charan’s Game Changer, has yet to review the edited portions.
The reports also suggest that the veteran filmmaker is also planning to shoot three more songs for the highly anticipated film. After completing the pending shoot, those portions will go into post-production. In that case, it might not be possible for the makers of Indian 2 to release the film in April 2024. The team members are clearly not in a hurry to release the film and want to complete the production of the film at its own pace.
After wrapping up the entire post-production activities, the Indian 2 team is also planning to have an extensive promotional campaign for the film. Some major pre-release events, including the trailer launch and audio launch, are also on the cards for the Kamal Haasan starrer. So, it is now safe to assume that the political thriller will hit theatres only by mid-2024.
Indian 2 to stream on Netflix after its theatrical run
However, it has been confirmed that Indian 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix after it completes its theatrical run. The streaming giant recently confirmed that the Kamal Haasan starrer will be available in five languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. The official release date of the Shankar directorial is expected to be revealed, along with a major update, once the team wraps up the film. After the release of Indian 2, the team will soon release the third part of the franchise, which has been titled Indian 3.
