Indian 2, the highly anticipated sequel of the 1996-released blockbuster Indian hit the theatres on July 12, 2024, after a long delay. The movie, which marked the second collaboration of Kamal Haasan and director Shankar, miserably failed to impress the audiences and critics. Especially, the cine-goers who are familiar with Indian and its iconic character Senapathy, are now brutally trolling the sequel, especially for its bizarre scenes. Now, Indian 2 makers have reportedly considered the criticisms and cut down the duration of the film.

As reported earlier, the netizens are calling the second installment in Shankar’s franchise, the filmmaker’s weakest movie to date. Indian 2 disappointed the cine-goers who have been eagerly waiting for the return of Indian Thatha aka Senapathy, by presenting the celebrated character in the most absurd manner. Some of the sequences of the film, especially the scenes in which Senapathy turns a man effeminated and another man into a ‘horse’ using martial arts form Varma Kalai, were heavily criticised by the audiences.

However, taking all the criticisms on the logic-defying scenes and excessive duration, the makers of Indian 2 reportedly decided to chop off around 20 minutes of footage from the Kamal Haasan starrer. If the recent updates are to be believed, most theatres across the world will screen this new, updated version of the Shankar directorial from today (Sunday, June 14, 2024). The makers believe that this creative move might save the underwhelming sequel of the 1996 blockbuster Indian (which is now available for streaming on Aha Tamil and OTTplay Premium), from impending doom at the box office.

Indian 3 is on its way

Meanwhile, director Shankar and his team are now actively working on the third and final (hopefully) installment in the Kamal Haasan-led franchise. The project, which has been titled Indian 3, is expected to hit the big screens by the first quarter of 2024, mostly in January. The Indian 3 trailer, which was released at the end of Indian 2 at the theatres, has been receiving good responses from the audiences.
