The first look poster of Dacoit revealing Shruti Haasan's look was unveiled on Sunday, to coincide with her 38th birthday celebrations. She looks stunning in a simple saree, giving the vibe of a quintessential heroine, who usually has no qualms about playing a subservient role to the hero.
However, if you have seen the announcement teaser for Dacoit you know Shruti's character is anything but a damsel in distress. For the uninitiated, the promo video is set against the backdrop of riot-hit streets. Cars are set ablaze, dead bodies strewn everywhere, properties broken, and blood is running on the streets when the past lovers meet again after a long time. This dystopian setting promises an intense romantic drama unlike anything we have seen before.

In Dacoit, Shruti and Adivi Sesh play the lead roles. While the hero seems to have moved on with his life and seems to have made his peace with the failed relationship, the heroine seems to be still seething with rage. "How long it has been since we last met?" asks the hero. "Since we separated you mean?" she responds. "Do you even remember me?" he asks. "I will never forget your betrayal?" she says, as her finger remains alert near the trigger of the shotgun that she is wielding.
Finally, Shruti seems to have found a role that could provide her with ample opportunity to showcase her acting prowess. Even though Shruti has been acting for nearly 15 years now, she was mostly limited to playing the hero's arm candy in most of her movies. There are only a handful of movies which properly gave her a platform to unveil her true acting potential. And Dacoit seems to be one such movie where we might get to see Shruti in a new dimension. The movie is directed by Shaneil Deo, who has co-written it with Adivi Sesh.
