Akka Kuruvi, the Tamil remake of Iranian classic movie Children of Heaven, is hitting the screens on May 6. Saamy, known for directing movies like Mirugam, has helmed the project. Madurai Muthu Movies, along with Kanavu Thozhirsalai, has bankrolled the film. Mahin and Daviya play lead roles in the remake which has Kathir and Varsha Bollamma, too, essaying crucial characters.
Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja is the composer of Akka Kuruvi. At the film's audio launch, Saamy said that the project's highlight will be the legendary musician's background score. The veteran has released a video in which he spoke about the experience of working in the film and compared it with the Iranian movie.
He said, "Back then, I never had time to watch many Tamil movies. I could watch only those films in which I worked as the composer. But I had made it a point to watch many classic films. Children of Heaven was one such film I loved so much two decades ago."
Raja added that he was surprised by filmmaker Majid Majidi making an engrossing film based on a small plot which revolved around a pair of shoes and two children. He was all praise for the non-cinematic approach towards its story development.
"What impressed me more was the manner in which the emotions between children were handled. The performances of children kept me hooked till the end. I wondered why filmmakers here never come up with such soul-stirring stories," Raja said.
The musician said that music directors can come up with great works only if there are arresting sequences complemented by relatable emotions. Raja said, "It's good to see Saamy remaking the film now in a way that suits our nativity. He has completely tweaked it without losing the essence."
