The return of Shoojit Sircar to the big screen after Sardar Udham must be celebrated by all means. And when he chooses to make a film about a father, we should already be queuing up at the cinema halls. The filmmaker, who has gifted us some of the most treasured movies in Indian cinema, now brings us a slice-of-life story about a man who dares to challenge death, striving for near immortality through a series of surgeries and the scars they leave behind. For those who may not make it to the theaters, we've got you covered. Here's where you can watch I Want To Talk after its theatrical run in India.
The film revolves around Arjun Sen (Abhishek Bachchan), a marketing genius who lives by the mantra: "If you cannot convince, confuse." Diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, Arjun undergoes one surgery after another. By the time we truly understand him, he has endured around 20 surgeries. His body is almost dismantled and pieced together again, yet he remains a doting (almost manipulatively so) father. Arjun goes to great lengths to ensure his daughter doesn’t witness his pain, micromanaging her life like a spirit hovering over her. Their relationship takes a transformative turn when she finally bursts out in frustration, leading to a deeper bond.
Starring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role alongside Johnny Lever and Ahilya Bamroo, the film is written by Shoojit Sircar and Ritesh Shah. The film has been a hot topic for months and is finally arriving in cinemas. After its theatrical run, I Want To Talk will stream on Amazon Prime Video. Notably, Shoojit Sircar’s last two directorial ventures, Gulabo Sitabo and Sardar Udham, are also available on the same platform.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shoojit Sircar spoke about casting Abhishek Bachchan in I Want To Talk: “Abhishek and I met in Melbourne, Australia. He took me out to dinner one night, and we talked for 3-4 hours... During our conversation, Abhishek opened his heart to me, and I could see his mother's (Jaya Bachchan) innocence in his eyes. When I was shooting for the first time with him, it was a silent shot, and I could see the purity and innocence deep within him. I wanted that same warmth, which I saw in Abhishek.”
Calling this Abhishek’s best project, Sircar added: “This would be his best film, in my opinion, and I will keep it at the top... Bahut si jagah par Irrfan (Khan) vaale moments create kiye hai (He created many Irrfan-like moments in the film). After watching the film, you’ll realize what he has done with his eyes and silence. His performance is outstanding.”
