Since signing up for her next Kannada project, a film called Baang, Shanvi Srivastava has only let slip that it is a dark comedy with a gangster backdrop, which required her to do a fair bit of action. The film, directed by Sree Ganesh Parashuram, is ready and gearing up for release, in the run-up to which the team introduced the characters and put out a first-look teaser, which provided a closer look at the subject of the film.

Turns out that Shanvi is playing a modern-day gangster chick called Leona, who’s got a score to settle with a rival by the name of Daddy. Played by Raghu Dixit, in his debut acting role, Daddy is, in fact, Leona’s father, but the duo has a professional rivalry that comes to play in the film. In Bengaluru for the teaser launch, Shanvi spoke about why she decided to do a film like Baang, after years of doing typical heroine roles. “I liked the script of Baang a lot when Sree Ganesh brought it to me, but I was doubtful and maybe even a wee bit hesitant to take it up. Not that I am or look strong to be able to pull off a character like this. But as an actor, I needed to satisfy the artiste in me. And I thought that roles like these don’t happen often, so, I had to do it. When I got into the costume of Leona to start shooting, I realized that I had made the right decision. Looking at myself, I was, to a certain extent, satisfied, that I am strong enough to experiment. A lot of people don’t attempt experimentation. I have done it; I don’t know what the results will be like, and I hope audiences will appreciate the effort,” said the actress.

Shanvi added that the film is actually about the characters played by Natya, Ritvik, Saathvika and Sunil, and that she and Raghu are only a part of their journey. “They are the actual heroes of the film,” she said.
