Actor Dhananjaya had pinned a lot of hopes on his upcoming film Hoysala, which would be his maiden release of 2023 and also mark his 25th outing as an actor. The film has him don the cop avatar one more time and judging by the video teaser and other promotional material, his fans have a lot of exciting action and drama in store. However, only days ahead of the release, the film encounter legal trouble as another team claims rights over the title to put the efforts of Daali Dhananjaya & Co. in jeopardy.
For the unversed, actor-director Hoysala Murthy revealed in a press conference on March 11th that his film 'Hoysala' has already been censored & approved for release and that with him getting the title registered much before Dhananjaya & Co. did, he is now forced to get a stay order on the release of Dhananjaya's film. In the same press conference, Murthy added that he now plans on releasing his Hoysala on March 30th, the same day the Dhananjaya starrer is scheduled to come out.
However, looks like KRG Studios (makers of Dhananjaya's film) have made last-minute changes in order to avoid a delay in the theatrical release of their film. And as a result, Hoysala is now Gurudev Hoysala and the latest poster too reflects this all-important change.

Dhananjaya, in a recent press meet, acknowledged the ongoing issue concerning the title and opined that the same title was registered at two different film chambers which, ultimately has led to confusion. However, since there is a court stay order issued against them by Hoysala Murthy, KRG Studios has chosen to tweak their title and release the film in theatres as Gurudev Hoysala.
The team has continued the promotions on social media and other channels with the new title of 'Gurudev Hoysala' and the film, as of now, is slated to release in theatres just as planned on March 30th.
As far as Hoysala Murthy's Hoysala is concerned, it is to be seen whether the filmmaker sticks to his recent plan of releasing his film on the same day. At the press meet, he lamented that should the Dhananjaya starrer has all the potential to crush his film but should there be a box office clash after all, it is highly likely that his Hoysala will be negatively impacted. More updates to follow.
