Karan Johar has always impressed the audience with the romantic films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The filmmaker is known for his trademark direction and iconic characters.
The director recently shared details of his first encounter with superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Then-aspirin g fashion designer Karan remembered telling Shah Rukh to switch the brand of his jeans. King Khan was also instructed by the filmmaker to show off his Adam's apple by unbuttoning a few buttons of his shirt.
In an interview with renowned fashion designer Prabal Gurung, Karan disclosed that Shah Rukh urged him to persuade him to switch denim labels. The director said that he still recall his initial meeting with Shah Rukh Khan. It was absurd because he was DDLJ's assistant at the time he revealed. He said: “I told him, ‘Oh, you know you’re wearing Wrangler jeans. You should wear Levi’s jeans. They’ll just fit you better. He was stunned. I didn’t know what gave me that entitlement I had. And I said, ‘Oh you have an Adam’s apple, you must open your shirt 2-3 buttons.’”
While Shah Rukh nodded in agreement, according to Karan, he quickly asked him to let him talk with Aditya Chopra. Aditya then informed SRK that Karan talks all these because he is a 'townie' (a person who is born and brought up in South Bombay). "Eventually Shah Rukh started finding amusement in all these things that I was saying and he was like, ‘What do you want to do?’ I was like, ‘I want to be a designer,’” KJo added.
Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar's collaboration
In 1998, Karan made his directorial debut with the romantic film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. SRK, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji played significant roles in the movie. The actor-director duo eventually became close friends and collaborated on a number of films such as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and My Name Is Khan.
