House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 6: Chaos in Westeros is now visible, contrasting the earlier chaos about the impending war. Both the Blacks and the Greens live under the constant threat of war and the struggle for the throne, if the dragons don’t annihilate them first. Speaking of dragons, they are not merely rides but the heart of the show, as they are central to the title. While the Greens have Vhagar, who could substitute for ten dragons, the Blacks have more dragons in number, but they are too young compared to the gigantic Vhagar, who has lived for nearly two centuries. Episode 5 showed Rhaenyra hatching a clever plan to inform people they could have a chance to ride a dragon or risk being burned by one. This all made sense.
Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke are all grown-up dragons but riderless. So, in House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 6, the biggest highlight is finding a suitable rider for the dragons, which is both wild and important. We had never seen a non-Targaryen sit on a dragon before (Jon Snow had a direct Targaryen connection before you came at me). So when a certain Ser Steffon is summoned and he is offered a ‘Ride or Die’ offer, he accepts it like there is no tomorrow. The episode is visually wild, with a lot happening, making it hard to keep track.
There is the pain of a mother with two sons but none to rescue her. Another sits far from her promised throne, now also judged by her son. There is a lot, and all of it is sealed with a kiss. You will know who does it. In case you haven't seen the episode, you’ve gotten enough spoilers. Head back. Below are the five highlights from the sixth episode of House of the Dragon Season 2.
The idea that Aemond has an empathetic side deserving of love and care is quickly diminishing as he grows into a man who knows nothing but taunts and insults. Episode 6 takes us to the small council, which is now very small, where we see a meeting being held. Aemond has no plans to listen to his mother and even wants to free her from her duties on the council. He shows no respect to the people on the council, using every possible verbal weapon to insult and put people in their place. His arrogance extends to Aegon, who is now partly conscious, grilled, and alive. Where this arrogance takes him will be interesting to see. He also says he is ready to fight Daemon. All of us who have read the books have that evil laugh right now. You aren't prepared, Prince Aemond.
In House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4, King Aegon II literally put himself right in front of two dragons while drunk. Just when he thought his brother would save him, Vhagar spit fire on him, grilling him instantly. Now, as he gains half-consciousness in Episode 6, we see Aemond meet him in his room. Aemond wants to know only one thing: how much of the battle with Meleys and being burned by Vhagar does he remember? Aegon smells danger (finally) and acts like he remembers nothing from that day. For those asking how Aemond assumes he might have forgotten the event, Aegon was drunk when he casually took Sunfyre to war. By the way, where is Sunfyre, poor soul?
The glowing table at the council on Dragonstone shocks everyone as Rhaenyra plans to make a long-lost half-Targaryen (or a diluted one) try to sit on a dragon's back. The Dragon Keepers summon Seasmoke, the most restless of them all, and he plays a trick, burning Ser Steffon just when everyone thinks he has accepted him. Seasmoke escapes Dragonstone and soon goes to the seashores, where fishermen are minding their own business with Addam present too. Seasmoke enters and disturbs everything, now chasing Addam. Addam runs into the trees just like Cole did a few episodes ago. But Seasmoke is a rogue and doesn’t care. He finally finds him and stands face to face. I mean, Addam to Seasmoke’s face. In the end, we hear that Seasmoke now has a rider. Wait, Addam is a Dragonseed?
Alicent has seen everything by now. She has been the queen, hand of the king, mother to the king, and now an insulted queen mother who was kicked out of the council by her own son. Alicent is having a rough day as she sits beside her son Aegon, who is still fighting for his life. She now seeks her father, Otto Hightower, who left for a solo trip the last time we saw him. But she is having the worst Monday. She decides to just pray with Helaena by her side, but the city, in chaos because of Aemond, retaliates against her, and riots break out. The small folks are unhappy with the Red Keep not providing them with food or resources to live.
Okay, this has to be the wildest thing grown-up Rhaenyra has done so far. She kissed Mysaria in the heat of the moment as she found her the closest at the moment. I'm not sure what this moment will grow into, but there will be some relevance of this bond in the coming episodes. The intimate moment is broken when Rhaenyra is informed that Seasmoke has found a rider, and they don’t know who he is. Rhaenyra takes Syrax and flies off immediately to find out who the rider is.
PS: Daemon continues to have his visions, and this time, he sees King Viserys again. These visions are getting stretched with no outcome in sight. If they only end up being the curse of Harrenhall, it might be a turn-off. You can watch all six episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2 on JioCinema in India.
