It is quite interesting to see how House Of The Dragon has found its unique soul even when it exists under the wings of Game Of Thrones. The story, which tells the history of the great houses that fought against the Night King in the eight-season show, HOTD has become the source where you learn what led to the day that we all watched with bated breath. The prequel show, now wrapping up its second season, has been a treat so far because it delves into the details of being a Targaryen and how the dragons made everyone bend the knee. It found itself in metaphors and nurtured that unique element with a whole lot of tragedy and surprising twists and tales. What started with King Viserys being eaten by the throne he sat on is now a war between the family for the same throne. Two women who were once the best of friends now stand against each other with only hate for each other.

Season two came in with a purpose for each party to fight. For Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), it is about losing a son to a spoilt brat who happens to be her stepbrother, born to her best friend who chose to make her younger one sit on the throne that was promised to Rhaenyra. There is so much drama in that one statement, and when you add dragons into the mix, it all gets intensified. So when Rhaenyra went to King's Landing disguised to find out what exactly is happening at the front and what Alicent (Olivia Cooke) thinks of it, she found her purpose to fight. It was the same day Alicent lost her purpose to stand strong on her front. Now she knew she had made a mistake and was even let down by her own son.
Episode 8 of House Of The Dragon Season 2 comes in with a massive surprise as everything now leads to war. We have seen two small ones, but the massive one awaits. The entire Westeros is preparing for a war that is actually to be fought within a family. The Civil War, or the Dance of the Dragons, is about to begin, and the second season ends in anticipation. But that is not all—dragons have been claimed, Vhagar is now not immortal, and Aegon, as he said, cannot even urinate normally. So the Greens are on the losing side of the fence. So what does a worried Alicent do? She does what Rhaenyra did when she felt she was on the failing end.
Alicent chooses to visit Rhaenyra on Dragonstone castle, knowing well that she may be walking into a death trap. She meets Rhaenyra in the hope of coming to a middle ground in making a peace treaty. She very well knows there is no way the Greens can survive the havoc the Blacks will lay on them. Also, she has been let down by Aemond, and Aegon is in no position to be the king. But that is not even what Rhaenyra is considering. For what looks like a lucrative offer, there is a flipside when the two women meet. Alicent offers an idea according to which, when Aemond and Criston Cole set out to attack the Riverlands, King's Landing will be under the command of Alicent and Helaena. In this case, they will open the gates for Rhaenyra to walk in as the ruler and end this war peacefully.
But while this plan sounds good to Rhaenyra, she is also aware that she needs to kill the opposition to have none claim the throne later. So she tells Alicent that she will kill Aegon and that this will be a part of the deal. Alicent, the mother, cries, but she also knows there is no way out. She accepts the term. This also makes us realize that Rhaenyra’s son-for-a-son theory is right, and she even says it. The conversation now moves to whether Alicent will be allowed to go free or not. Alicent says she put her trust in a woman who was once her best friend. And Rhaenyra lets her go free.
