House of the Dragon release date: When and where to watch the Game of Thrones prequel on OTT

House of the Dragon will chronicle the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, which will lead to the Targaryen civil war a.k.a Dance of the Dragons.

What is House of the Dragon about?

Based on George R R Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon focuses on the rise and fall of House Targaryen, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The series has prominent British actors including Olivia Cooke will be playing Lady Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith will essay the character named Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, King Viserys I Targaryen will be portrayed by Paddy Considine, Steve Toussaint to play Lord Corlys Velaryon, while Rhys Ifans will be seen as Ser Otto Hightower. Like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon also has a huge ensemble that also includes Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel among others.

Created by Ryan J. Condal and the novelist Martin himself, House of the Dragon has Miguel Sapochnik, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, Ron Schmidt serving as executive producers along with Condal and Martin.

Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons aka Khaleesi herself wished the cast and the makers good luck in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s gonna be whatever it will be, but of course, they're doing more,” she said, adding that she is confident that the prequel series will be a huge success.

When and where is House of the Dragon releasing?

The much-awaited series, which will have 10 episodes in the first season, is all set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21 in the US. However, the makers have yet not unveiled when and where the Indian audience will be able to stream it. In India, the show will air on Disney+ Hotstar on August 22.
