In the last few months, there’s been a massive lull in the Kannada film industry with a few smaller films hitting theatres with literally no promotions and disappearing in no time. There have not been any major titles on OTT either. This was expected to change starting July 21, with the film Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare (HHB), a campus comedy that is being presented by Rakshit Shetty. The film, which has a bunch of newcomers on its cast, has created the right buzz with its publicity, but it still has a big task at hand, what with Christopher Nolan’s massive Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie also in theatres on the same day. Turns out, HHB is not the only Kannada film putting up a fight. Here’s a look at the films that have announced a July 21 theatrical outing.
Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare
Director Nithin Krishnamurthy’s comedy captures events that happen on one night at a boys’ hostel. One of the major elements plus points, besides the story-telling, is 777 Charlie and Kantara cinematographer Aravind Kashyap’s work.
David
This suspense thriller is the directorial debut of Shreyas Chinga, who is also playing the lead in the film. The film, follows four story arcs, which merge in the pursuit of David, the antagonist.
Ambuja
A horror suspense thriller led by Shubha Poonja and Ranjani, the film explores the medical mafia and women going missing mysteriously, with the former playing a crime reporter who tries to get to the bottom of it.
Nimmellara Ashirvada
Led by Pratik Shetty, this film revolves around a police offier, who is burdened by the weight of his family’s dreams, leading to unexpected love and loss, which, in turn, forces him to reevaluate his purpose.
Devara Kanasu
Director Suresh Lakkoor’s film follows an innocent boy from a remote village who aspires to own a bicycle.
It is being reported that at least three more films, Paramvah, Don Kumara and Madhura Kavya will be in theatres. It remains to be seen how many screens each of these films manage to get on July 21.
