Hidimbha 2023: Review, story, cast, crew, budget, box office, OTT premiere date and more

Hidimbha is an action thriller, written and directed by Aneel Kanneganti, revolving around two cops and the challenges they face while trying to trace the whereabouts of the culprit. The film released in theatres on July 20. After its brief theatrical run, the film is gearing up for its worldwide digital premiere this weekend.

An ensemble cast

Ashwin Babu, the actor who shot to fame with Genius, Jatha Kalise and the horror comedy franchise Raju Gari Gadhi, played the pivotal role as an investigating officer in the film. Nandita Swetha was cast as his on-screen colleague and romantic interest.

Srinivasa Reddy, Sahithi Avancha, Sanjay Swaroop, Shijju, Vidyulekha Raman, Rajiv Kanakala, Shubaleka Sudakar, Pramodhini, Raghu Kunche, Rajeev Pillai, Deepthi Nallamothu formed the supporting cast of the film.

A young, capable technical crew

Aneel Kanneganti, who directed the Nandamuri Kalyanram starrer Asadhyudu and Manoj Manchu’s Nookayya wielded the megaphone for the thriller. The film was bankrolled by Gangapatnam Sreedhar under SVK Cinemas in collaboration with Anil Sunkara’s AK Entertainments. B Rajasekar cranked the camera for the actioner edited by M R Varma. Vikas Badisa scored the music.

Gripping story

The plot unfolds in Hyderabad when several mysterious disappearances of women causes mayhem in the city, leaving the cops baffled. A special officer Aadya (Nandita Sweta) comes on board to investigate the case with Abhay (Ashwin Babu). Will they succeed in their pursuit of finding the psychopath?

Review

OTTplay.com's critic called Hidimbha a suspense thriller that is good on paper which has passable thrills. However, it faced criticism in instances where the director had to amp up the thrill-quotient and ultimately labelled it a half-baked affair where the last fifteen minutes appear hurried.

OTT premiere date

Leading OTT platform aha acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of Hidimbha. In three weeks of its theatrical run, Hidimbha will arrive on the streamer on August 10.

Budget, box office

It is believed that Hidimbha was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore and recovered a little over 50% of its budget.
