South Korean actor Song Joong-ki, popular for starring in the K-drama Vincenzo, recently welcomed a baby boy with his British wife, actor Katy Louise Saunders.
While his fans were thrilled at the latest addition to his family, and even sent him many congratulations, they are miffed with his recent statement on fatherhood.
In a recent interview that Joong-ki gave in China, he spoke about how difficult it is for men to get work in the entertainment industry after becoming fathers.
When the actor was asked about balancing work and his personal life, he said, "Sometimes, being a father, being a husband, that means losing a job in this business. Being a father and having a baby, and a marriage with a woman, in this business, sometimes, it looks like (I’m) losing my job more and more."
For many, especially in Korea, these comments have come across as insensitive, since netizens have been pointing out that his divorce with his first wife, actor Song Hye-kyo, had no impact on his career, but it certainly affected hers.
As word spread, netizens across the world haven't taken kindly to what Joong-ki said, with many commenting that he is "full of it", taking digs at the fact that a male actor is making such a comment in a world where "even if (the number of) his fans drop, his job won't get affected".
Joong-ki attended the Louis Vuitton show in Paris on June 20, and was spotted with NCT's Yuta and GOT7's BamBam in the same event. Upset over Joong-ki's comment on fatherhood, fans commented on pictures of the three of them together, asking Yuta and BamBam to "run away".
