The sequel to Heropanti (2014), which launched Tiger Shroff’s Bollywood career, is gearing up for its release this month. The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a prominent role and the actor recently opened up about why he chose to play the film’s flamboyant criminal mastermind Laila.
In conversation with Mid-Day, the actor revealed that the offer for the role came to him when he was in London shooting for another film. Director Ahmed Khan and scriptwriter Rajat Arora had narrated the character to Siddiqui with such ‘zeal and enthusiasm’ that he had been impressed. “The fact that they were living the character made me want to play 'Laila' even more," he added.
The Gangs of Wasseypur actor also talked about how he was also intrigued by the ‘authenticity’ of Laila. Despite Heropanti 2 being a commercial film, he was fascinated by how the makers had constructed the character’s authenticity, his background, the reasons and the logic behind what he did etc. “I did realise that even the content-driven movies don't have as much information as Ahmed and Rajat had for this character," said Siddiqui.
The upcoming film also stars Tara Sutaria as the female lead. Amrita Singh and Zakir Hussain also star in pivotal roles. Sajid Nadiadwala has produced the film under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman, and Shroff has also lent his vocals to a song from the film’s soundtrack, titled Miss Hairan. The song came out today.
Heropanti 2 will be released in theatres on April 29.
Meanwhile, Siddiqui recently wrapped up filming Noorani Chehra. His upcoming releases also include Tiku Weds Sheru.
