National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut is excited about the release of her maiden production venture, Tiku Weds Sheru. The actress-turned-producer explained why the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer is close to her heart and why the story feels personal to her.

Initially, the film was supposed to be made with the late actor Irrfan Khan, but the project got shelved. In 2020, when the makers decided to carry on with making the film, Irrfan passed away, so Nawazuddin was eventually cast for the part.

The story of the film revolves around a junior struggling actor named Shiraz Khan Afghani, aka Sheru, and a young aspiring actress, Tasleem Khan, aka Tiku.

Talking about why she chose to produce the film after many years, Kangana said, "Whether it is me, Nawaz saab, Irrfan sir, and people like us, who came from outside of the film industry and made it big here, every one of us went through a tough struggle to get here. However, only the story of an achiever makes it to the celluloid and people get to know their story of struggle. In my film Woh Lamhe also such a story is shown, but there are lakhs of people who come to Mumbai every day with a dream. Where do these people go? What really happens to them? I know many of them come to Mumbai after running away from home. When I came to Mumbai, I had shut all doors behind me and did not have any way to go back home."

Recalling that one moment that changed her life, the actress went on to share, "I used to audition for a role every day and was getting rejected every day. One day, with one audition which was approved by Anurag Basu, my whole life changed. But what would have happened to me if that one selection hadn't happened? That thought played out in my mind several times. You see, I was rejected in auditions many times, but that does not mean that I was less talented. It's like the selection is the result and you could be a great student for the entire year, but just that one marksheet makes all the difference. All these thoughts and this story makes Tiku Weds Sheru a personal film for me."

The film is directed by Sai Kabir, and also stars Zakir Hussain, Vipin Sharma, and Suresh Vishwakarma among. It will available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting June 23.
