Selena Gomez's fans are reeling from shock after the singer's sudden announcement of hiatus from the social media world. The surprising news took the internet by storm amid the Israel-Palestine conflict.  

What prompted Selena Gomez to quit social media?

The beloved singer-actress with over 430 million followers on Instagram left fans baffled with questions after she decided to leave the social media platform for some time. 

The Good For You singer is quite active on social media. However, her recent inactivity had fans puzzled about the reason, and today the 31-year-old singer took to her Instagram story to reveal the reason for her departure.

"My heart breaks to see all of the horror..."

The Calm Down singer voiced her concern against the horror and hate crimes going around the world. Although she did not specify the Hamas conflict, she allegedly pointed to the extreme violence against innocent people. 

In the story, she shared, "I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world. It is horrifying to see people tortured and killed, or any act of hatred directed at any one group. We must safeguard all people, especially children, and put an end to the violence."

She also shared a picture of her little sister in the next story and expressed her broken heart, citing the violence against innocent children. 

 "I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag; I just can't stand by and watch innocent people get hurt. That's what bothers me. I wish I had the power to change the world. However, a post will not be enough. Love, Selena," she further added. 

On the work front, Selena Gomez was last seen in Only Murders in the Building Season 3, alongside prominent actress Meryl Streep. The Rare beauty entrepreneur is also busy with her business endeavors and upcoming music album.
