Here's when Sibiraj, Tanya Ravichandran's mystery thriller Maayon will hit the screens

Sibiraj-starrer Maayon has been in the making for quite some time. Billed as a thriller flick, the film revolves around an archaeologist who sets out to discover intriguing details behind an old temple which is several centuries old with the help of a few like-minded people. Debutant Kishore N has directed the project which has Tanya Ravichandran essaying the female lead. 

Radha Ravi, KS Ravikumar, Bagavathi Perumal and Hareesh Peradi among others essay important characters in the project which has been bankrolled by Arun Mozhi Manickam under Double Meaning Production. Interestingly, Arun himself has written the movie's screenplay.    

Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for the movie and its title track was unveiled recently. Ram Prasad has cranked the camera for the film which has editing handled by Ram Pandian and Kondalarao. Billa Jegan has choreographed stunt sequences for Maayon and Vnodh JD is in charge of VFX sequences.

According to the makers, an unusual incident which happened inside a popular temple a while ago was the driving force for the director to come up with the script. Sibiraj had earlier said that Maayon will be a first-of-its-kind movie in Tamil.  

Tanya essays the role of an epigraphist in the movie which will have her in a role which is in contrast to a slew of characters that she had played earlier. The makers had earlier said that art direction for the film is likely to earn praises post its release. A huge temple set was erected at Kumbakonam where a lion's share of the movie was shot, and there were many who mistook it to be a real temple.

The shooting of the project was completed three years ago. Though the team had plans to release it earlier, it was pushed a few times owing to various circumstances. They have now announced that the film will release in theatres on June 17.
