Actor Ashokan gave an explanation of why Thoovanathumbikal, directed by P Padmarajan, is a timeless film that appeals to audiences of all ages in an interview with Movie Man Broadcasting. He said that some of the characters in the movie were similar to some of the residents of Thrissur. “The film's meticulously detailed script, which depicts love in its purest form, is what sets it apart,” he said.

The Amaram actor said that the director's skill in presenting such a subject in a delicate, natural, and beautiful way is what sets this movie apart. Regarding the recent debates over the slang used in Thoovanathumbikal, Ashokan said that it all depends on the viewpoint and personal preference of the individual watching it.

The dialect employed in this movie attracted viewers back then, he continued. "Artists did their best to do justice to the dialogue delivery, and there might have been slight mistakes,” he said.

Thoovanathumbikal, which was released in 1987, features Mohanlal, Parvathy, Sumalatha, Ashokan, and Babu Namboothiri in lead roles. The film is available on Disney+ Hotstar.

Perilloor Premier League on January 5

Ashokan made these statements during the interview as part of promoting his upcoming webseries Perilloor Premier League on Disney+ Hotstar. The webseries will be available in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Bengali on the platform starting January 5.

Sunny Wayne, Ashokan, Nikhila Vimal, Vijayaraghavan, and Aju Varghese are starring in Perilloor Premier League, directed by Praveen Chandran. E4 Entertainment is producing the series, penned by Kunjiramayanam’s writer, Deepu Pradeep. The makers released a glimpse into the characters of Perilloor village in a short video on December 23. Ashokan will be seen playing a politician named Peethambaran.

Ashokan’s upcoming projects

The actor had recently appeared in another webseries titled Masterpeace on Disney+ Hotstar. He played Kuriyachan, the father of Nithya Menen’s character, in the webseries. Ashokan had also acted in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Ntikkakkakkoru Premondarnn this year. His upcoming works include Unni Mukundan’s Jai Ganesh, which is expected to release in April 2024.
